What We Do
Local government in Suffolk has three levels. We are the third level. Martlesham's local council concentrates upon improving the experience of living in Martlesham for our residents. We do this by enhancing our built and natural environment, providing sports and recreational facilities and supporting community groups.
It is also a vital part of our role to represent the interests of residents before planners and when consultations on infrastructure and other developments affect our community.
Council Meetings
Parish Council Meetings are held once a month, on the first Wednesday, and are where the councillors agree actions and proceed with duties.
Planning
Responding to Planning Applications is a core part of Martlesham Council's responsibilities, and we respond where necessary and give our recommendation to all planning applications within the Parish.

Martlesham Council Grant Applications
Martlesham Parish Council will be considering Grants to local organisations with the deadline for applications being the 7th October 2024.
The grant is designed to benefit and help the people of Martlesham without the end result being disproportionate to the cost. Please bear this in mind when applying.

Wildlife Friendly Garden Competition
Martlesham Council has launched a photography competition to find the best wildlife friendly gardens in the parish during 2024. Please send photos of your garden as it was in January, February or March. Next month, we will ask you submit any photos you may have of your garden in April, May or June. There will be a submission limit of one photo per person per month. If possible, try to orientate your photos so that they are landscape rather than portrait.

We are delighted to announce that 'Martlesham in Bloom' have kindly offered to provide some prizes for the winners of this competition. Please do get out into the garden this month and take some photos in order to be in with a chance of winning a fabulous garden-related prize.
March is the last chance to plant bare rooted trees until the autumn. If you have a hedge, now is a good time to fill in any gaps. Hedges provide food and shelter for wildlife and act as corridors and steppingstones helping species move from one habitat to another. This month, carry out some spring sowings of wildflower seeds, adding annuals such as field poppy and cornflowers for a burst of colour.
