About Us
Local government in Suffolk has three levels.
We are the first level. Martlesham's local council concentrates upon improving the experience of living in Martlesham for our residents. We do this by enhancing our built and natural environment, providing sports and recreational facilities and supporting community groups.
It is also a vital part of our role to represent the interests of residents before planners and when consultations on infrastructure and other developments affect our community.
In 1894 when we were formed, we covered the historical parish of Martlesham so to this day the full formal title of your local council is "Martlesham Parish Council" although we have the same powers as a town council such as Woodbridge.
Secondly, we have East Suffolk Council which looks after key matters like planning in the area which includes Lowestoft to the borders of Ipswich.
Finally, there is Suffolk County Council which deals with county wide functions such as education, social services and highways.
